The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the central organization to which all local chambers of commerce belong. As an opinion leader in economic circles, JCCI represents the local chambers by presenting their suggestions to the government and other bodies, and helping implement them. JCCI also plays an important role in the dissemination of information concerning government policies and programs, and the promotion of nationwide projects.
The International Marine Purchasing Association (or simply put, IMPA) is the non-profit organization that has been at the heart of the marine procurement and supply chain management industry since 1978.
Established more than four decades ago by a group of senior purchaser executives who wanted to create an industry voice to make heard the interests of the profession, IMPA now represents a strong and vibrant community of almost 1,000 maritime purchaser and supplier members who are working towards continuous improvement and development of the industry.
By developing a comprehensive programme of engagement in the art and science of responsible supply chain management, IMPA ACT has been improving the economic, social and environmental compliance of its ship purchaser and supplier members.
The IMPA ACT programme takes the partnership approach at its core and not the usual command-and-control approach. The programme allows for ample time to finalise implementation as it acknowledges that smaller businesses might not have resources to implement it in one go. As an initiative for the global shipping industry, we also want to be as inclusive as we possibly can.
Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection. More important than ever, the goals provide a critical framework for COVID-19 recovery.
